YNGWIE MALMSTEEN's "Attack": More Details Revealed
June 25, 2002YNGWIE MALMSTEEN has written around 19 songs for his forthcoming album, entitled Attack, which is currently being produced by MALMSTEEN and engineered by Tom Fletcher in Miami, Florida. However, only 14 tracks are expected to make the final CD, which is unlikely to surface before September.
Says YNGWIE: "There are quite a few different sounding songs in this collection – it's just a very diverse album this time. There a quiet guitar ballad, a classically-influenced piece that you may describe as Bach on steroids, there are some very catchy hooky songs with great choruses, a few epics in the 'Seventh Sign/Pyramid Of Cheops' tradition, you name it."
Among the cuts set to appear on the forthcoming CD are the following:
01. Valhalla
02. The Razor Eater
03. Valley Of The Kings
04. Ship Of Fools
05. Rise Up
06. Ironclad
07. In The Name Of God
YNGWIE on new vocalist Doogie White (ex-RAINBOW): "Doogie brought a lot of talent to the table I'm very stoked about how these songs are turning out with him on vocals. I pushed him quite a bit, to mold him into my style, but he still has his own sound even with my direction for phrasing".
YNGWIE on new drummer Patrik Johansson: "Patrik has put down some fuckin' monster drumming on all the songs - he's a real modern-day viking (laughs)".
YNGWIE on the total lack of guitar/keyboard duel between him and new keyboardist Derek Sherinian (ex-DREAM THEATER): "The reason for that is that it would be a step back towards the old vibe I left behind — I want to keep moving forward and try not to recreate something I have done in the past. Derek played what I asked him to, but he brought his own approach and talent into the mix, so the keyboard support sounds very fresh and new to me".
On planned CD release containing YNGWIE's early recordings under the title The Genesis: "As you all know, the original plan was to relase it via YJM Merchandising, well there has been some interest from various record companies and this avenue is currently being investigated."
The Genesis is tentatively scheduled to include six tracks from 1980, possibly one from 1978, a 12-minute rendition of HENDRIX's "Voodoo Chile" and another track that is 17 minutes long! In addition there will be four bonus tracks of unreleased material, and some spoken-word comments from YNGWIE. The artwork will be an original piece and the inlay will contain early photos from YNGWIE's private collection.
